Letter of intention, the Animation Workshop
Hello, my name
is André Rondahl. I am 19 years of age, and I wish to apply for the Computer
Graphic Arts program at the animation workshop. My interest in drawing started
at a young age and I have known what I want to work with since 8th
grade. At the age of 16 I took the first
step towards that dream and decided to move away from my family to study
animation at an upper secondary school in Eksjö in Sweden. During three years I have studied animation
and been taught about the whole process, from storyboarding, sound and
animation to background and character design. This is my third and final year
and I will soon graduate and finish my last big movie project. With this last project I learned that
Computer Graphic Arts is the program best suited for myself. The parts I loved the most while I made the
short movie was the creation of different environments and to design scenes and
populate the world with your very own characters. So now after my first step I
have decided to take the second one towards my dream and apply to the Animation
Workshop’s Computer Graphic Arts program.
In the future I
would like to get all the contacts and experience I need to start working
within the animation industry as a concept/environment artist or character
designer because that is what I love to do. I have already traveled far but
this is not the end, only the beginning and I can see how much further this
journey is going to take me. I know that with my determination I’m going to
work with animation in the future and fulfill my dreams, maybe even someday
work in places like Disney, Dreamworks or Pixar, companies whose movies have
influenced me the most. My favorite movies must be the Toy Story trilogy, they
are simply put amazing and they have managed to make them stay interesting and
great throughout all three movies. I love a great story so something I followed
for a long time is the comic books “walking dead”, they have created a world
with great characters and how they evolve and adapt to such an extreme world
with zombies is interesting.
I have during these
years when I studied animation learnt how to use quite a few programs, those
programs are:
Adobe Photoshop
Cs4 and 6
Adobe Flash Cs4 and 6
Adobe Premiere
Cs5
Adobe After
effects Cs5
Paint tool sai
Audacity
We worked a lot
with these programs and I know how to use them all, however I have used
Photoshop more than Sai. The program I worked with the least is After effects
but I still know the basics. I feel that my user level with this software is higher
than average except After affects where I consider my user level as average
knowledge. I consider my English
language very good as well, I have the grade B in both English courses at my
upper secondary school and even taken an extra course during my last year to
increase my English knowledge more if I would get accepted to the Computer
Graphic Arts program.
If I get
admitted as a student I’m going to Denmark. As I moved away from home at the
age of 16, I am used to travelling and taking the step to move abroad isn’t
something I find difficult. On the contrary, I find it rather exciting.
Financial issues are not going to be a problem, I have already called and checked
with CSN here in Sweden about student loans and they told me that I can take loan
for both the living and the education costs when I Study abroad. I hope that I
will have some interesting years ahead of me at the Animation Workshop in
Denmark.
